LCGS, Paper 1, Exam 2

The Lincolnshire Consortium runs one of the most distinctive 11+ tests in the country. Two reasoning-only papers, sat a week apart on consecutive weekends in September, with no Maths and no English comprehension anywhere in either paper.
 
Our papers focus only on what the consortium tests, which is what your child needs to sit.
 
Paper 1 is the verbal half. 80 multiple-choice questions in 50 minutes, which works out at around 37 seconds per question. That is one of the tightest verbal reasoning paces of any GL exam in the country, and pace practice is a large part of what makes preparation for this paper work.
 
Paper 1 is used by all 15 member schools of the LCGS (NB: Caistor Grammar is not part of the consortium and runs its own bespoke test).The content sweeps through the full GL verbal canon at a punishing pace — fourteen short, separately-timed sections, so children must switch question type every three or four minutes without losing rhythm. Vocabulary carries the largest weight, with five separate vocabulary types (synonyms, antonyms, odd-one-out, words with two meanings, and word link) alongside verbal analogies, a full sweep of word-building puzzles (compound words, hidden words, missing letters, three-letter words), letter and number series, letter codes and short worded logic problems.All multiple choice, answered on a separate OMR-style answer sheet.
