Kendrick School, Paper 1, Exam 1
A complete Kendrick School 11+ mock exam experience in preparation for the real exam.
One full Paper 1 designed to replicate the conditions on exam day at Kendrick School, the girls' selective grammar in Reading.
Specially prepared for the Kendrick entrance exam, our Paper 1 mock follows the full Verbal Skills structure used on the day. Each paper contains English and Verbal Reasoning across eight separately timed sections, the same format, pace and pressure as the real thing.
Paper 1 has a distinct character across both parts: comprehension- and language-led English, and broad-type Verbal Reasoning drawn from the GL canonical 21 Types. It focuses on the question types that emphasise close reading, vocabulary precision, accurate spelling and punctuation, and logical word-pattern reasoning.
Both Kendrick papers are taken on the same day with a short break in between, so pair Paper 1 with our Paper 2 (Non-Verbal Reasoning, Spatial Reasoning and Mathematics) for full exam coverage.
Papers include a separate GL-style answer sheet to simulate exam conditions, designed to look and feel like the real thing. A complete answer key with explanations is included with every paper.
Question types include:
Part A: English
- Reading comprehension on a literary or non-fiction passage
- Spelling (identifying errors in continuous prose)
- Punctuation (identifying errors in continuous prose)
Part B: Verbal Reasoning
Five timed type-blocks per paper, drawn from the GL canonical 21 Types. Every paper includes:
- Closest in Meaning (synonyms)
- Opposite Meanings (selecting one word from each of two groups)
Three further blocks vary across the series and are drawn from the broader GL canon (Letter Codes, Letter and Number Series, Move a Letter, Hidden Word, Compound Word, Word Link, Analogies, Odd One Out, Two Meanings, Missing Letter, Logic Riddle, and more) so that a pupil working through all five papers encounters the full GL range.
