Every year freedom of information requests, government reports and school provided data help us understand the core data around children sitting the entrance tests for Nonsuch High School for Girls. This ranges from pass rates, to geography and more.

What is the lowest standardised score to receive an offer in recent years?
What percentage of girls pass the Sutton SET (the first exam)?

Of the 85 places with no address requirement, how many offers are outside of the catchment area?
It's worth clarifying the entrance policy on these 85 places at Nonsuch. These are not 85 places reserved for applicants outside of the catchment area, this is an oft-quoted myth that is not accurate.
These 85 places are reserved for the top performing results, it may be easier to think of them as the "Top 85". If you are in the Top 85, then your address is irrelevant, you could be sitting from overseas and your place will be deemed eligible.
So the question then becomes: of these Top 85, how often are offers made to people outside of catchment?
In 2023 26 of the 85 (31%) were outside of catchment
In 2022 37 (44%) were outside of catchment
This means, considering the 210 places available, that:
In 2023, 12% of offered students were outside of catchment
In 2022, 18% of offered students were outside of catchment
What are the highest standardised scores in recent years?
The highest standardised scores (a combination of both Stage 1 and Stage 2) in recent years are as follows (years refer to the academic joining year):
Year | Highest Standardised Score |
2020 | 392 |
2021 | 389 |
2022 | 393 |
2023 | 406 |
2024 | 389 |
What is the lowest standardised score to receive an offer in recent years?
The lowest standardised scores to receive offers in recent years are as follows (years refer to the academic joining year):
Year | In the Top 85 | Inside Catchment Area | Ring-fenced (15 places for children living in the Borough of Sutton) |
2021 | 318 | 283 | 275 |
2022 | 323 | 288 | 282 |
2023 | 322 | 288 | 281 |
2024 | 321 | 290 | Not yet published |
The above shows us quite clearly that the lowest accepted score in the Top 85 is on average 34 marks higher than standard acceptance within the catchment area, which in turn in is 8 marks higher than those living in the Borough of Sutton.
What percentage of girls pass the Sutton SET (the first exam)?
Let's take a look at some data, first.
Joining year | Number of girls sitting Sutton SET | Number of girls qualifying for NWSSEE |
2019 | 2518 | 1055 |
2020 | 2630 | 1059 |
2021 | 2261 | 982 |
2022 | 2628 | 1040 |
2023 | 2557 | 1071 |
2024 | 3126 | 1156 |
On average 2620 girls sit the Sutton SET and 1060 pass to qualify for the NWSSEE, meaning that 40% of girls pass the Sutton SET.
In the 2023 exams (for 2024 entrance) 37% passed the SET.
What percentage of girls pass the NWSSEE (the second exam) and what percentage actually receive an offer?
We should think of the NWSSEE as those who sit the exam, those who pass and are eligible for a place at the school, and then those who are actually offered one of the 210 places at the school.
Because of the heavy lifting achieved by the Sutton SET exam at first stage (removing 60% of applicants), the percentage of those who pass the second stage NWSSEE exam is comparatively high.
Last year's data is not yet available, but we can see 2023 and 2022 below:
In 2022: 1040 girls sat the NWSSEE and 954 "passed" or were eligible for a place in the school. Of those 954, the normal 210 places would be available and offered in ranking order.
In 2023: 1071 girls sat the NWSSEE and 973 "passed" or were eligible for a place in the school. Of those 973, the normal 210 places would be available and offered in ranking order.
Now that we have the above data, we can see that on average 91% of the girls who sit the NWSSEE are eligible for a place, but because only 210 places are available, only 20% of the girls actually receive an offer.
Thinking about waiting lists, when was the latest offer made and accepted last year?
Given the above data we can see that only 22% of girls who are eligible for a place actually receive an offer. Offer Day is on or about 1st March 2025, for those eligible candidates who do not receive an offer, knowing how long to wait is an important parenting decision. As offers are declined, new offers will be made, working down the list.
Last year, the latest offer made was in July 2023, 4 months after offer day.
As the exam dates get closer, see below for links to our preparation exams for both the Sutton SET and specific exam preparation for the NWSSEE including the Writing Triplets piece which is particular to Nonsuch and Wallington Girls.
