LCGS GL

Spalding High School

Entrance exams for all 14 schools in the Lincolnshire Consortium of Grammar Schools assess Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning only. Papers are provided by GL (Granada Learning, previously NFER) one of the two largest 11+ exam bodies in the UK, alongside CEM.

GL papers are built from a question bank of c15,000 entrance questions and follow a pattern of repeating question styles. For these reasons it is generally agreed that GL entrance exams are easier to revise for than their less predictable CEM cousins.

In the case of LCG, all the questions historically have been multiple choice. The answer sheets are computer-marked, so it is vital that answers are recorded on the sheet and not on the paper itself.

Let’s look at what we know

  • There are two papers, one for Verbal Reasoning and one for Non-Verbal Reasoning

  • The papers are generally sat on separate days, but this can vary

  • LCGS papers are built from the GL question bank and follow repeated question styles

  • With practise, it is possible to familiarise with the types of questions in a GL exam

  • Questions are multiple choice with the answers recorded on a separate answer sheet

Choosing the right practice paper

LCGS candidates should practise timed, multiple choice papers with separate answer sheets, covering Verbal Reasoning ad Non-Verbal Reasoning.

  • Verbal Reasoning

  • Non-Verbal Reasoning
